Hi everyone, welcome back to The Skin Sensei. I’m Dr. Winlove Mojica. I’m a dermatologist and a teacher. Today, I will be your teacher on the skin and sexuality. This episode we will be discussing a common concern of people in Twitter, Facebook, social media, and even in real life consults Doc, do we really need to get facials regularly to treat acne and get clear skin? But before we answer that question, please don’t forget to hit the like and subscribe button. Kindly click the notification bell as well. So let’s begin! Ikimashou! Wherever you look, left and right, you’ll see beauty spas, beauty salons, and facial clinics that will offer to prick your face or give you a facial to help treat your acne. Are facials a good treatment for acne? Do getting regular facials really help in treating pimples? NO! I have a lot of patients who get facials regularly. They’ve spent so much money getting treatments but their pimples still won’t heal. In some cases, their acne even got worse. In short, they didn’t get prettier from it. What happens during a facial anyway? Usually, it begins with a steaming procedure to soften the skin on the face. Then, depending on where the treatment is done, sometimes a facial massage and mask comes first before pricking. While other times, pricking comes first before the massage or mask. Now, what’s pricking? Pricking is the process of removing whiteheads and blackheads using a comedone extractor. Comedone is the scientific term for whiteheads and blackheads. So, when you press a comedone extractor to your skin, usually whiteheads and blackheads will come out. But sometimes, they get too tough or they’re sitting too deep in the skin that a needle or blade is needed to enlarge the pore to remove the whiteheads and blackheads easier. At this point, I just want to stress to all of you to not consent to the cutting or poking of your face unless a doctor is doing it. DON’T! Theoretically, when you get a facial, you’re removing the first factor or the clogged skin. But, due to excessive rubbing of the skin through the comedone extraction or during facial you’re increasing irritation, leading to an increased inflammation or the fourth factor. That’s why some people will notice that they have more pimples after they get a facial. So, having said this, “Doc, do we really need to get facials regularly to get rid of pimples?” The answer is no. It depends. Not everyone will benefit from getting facials or pricking or removing comedones. So what’s more important now? More than anything, the most important thing is medicine! True? True. Next video, we’ll talk about the different medicine that you can use to improve your acne. Thank you for being with me today!
