Hi. I’m Dr. David Reath, and we’re here to
answer this week’s Truth-O-Meter Tuesday question. Helping me out is Mandy Milsaps–Mandy, most
of you know that have been to my office, is one of our nursing staff.
And we’re talking about ways to improve scars. And we use a lot of silicone sheeting, which
is placed on the scars to improve the appearance of the scars.
Our question is: Silicone sheeting and topical ointments, creams, and salves, are all equally
effective in improving scars, and the answer is False.
Interestingly, it’s the pressure that the silicone sheet places on the scar that really
improves the scars, and you don’t need to use a salve or ointment or something that
you might buy at the drugstore in addition to that.
Mandy, do we have a strip here? Yeah.
Okay, this is a sample of our silicone strips that we use–very easy to apply.
We’ll just say that I have a scar here. And you just compress, and place it over the
scar. And this places pressure against the scar,
and it’s very very effective. We include these in our kits with surgery.
Interestingly, these aren’t cheap. A little strip like this costs about $40.
Who knew? But it’s really the most important thing,
and it’s what makes a difference. So, you all tuned in today to find out who
our winner is, and Mandy, why don’t you tell them.
Jamie Cline. You are our big winner this week. Jamie you get a $100 gift certificate so please
come into the office and pick that up. To everybody that played this week, thank you
very much. We’ll see you next week.
