Hey, it’s Dr. Sharon stills here, one of your physician experts over at Women’s Health Network See if you can resonate with this: it’s 2:00 a.m. in the morning and you’re staring at the clock. You can’t sleep. You’ve got to get up at 6:00am and you’re just stressing out because you know you’re not gonna sleep and you’re gonna be tired the next morning Well, I find that a lot of my patients have this happen to them. They wake up between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 a.m in the morning and they just can’t get back to sleep. This correlates with the time of the liver according to traditional Chinese medicine and the cycle of tides the clock that relates to all the organs and So when this is happening between 1:00 and 3:00am, and it’s relating to the liver what I often recommend is that your liver needs some love and support and needs help detoxifying and when we can do this we can get you sleeping through the night. So one of my favorite tools for doing this is having patients – myself included, I love to do this! – is to make castor oil packs So today I’m going to walk you through it briefly and show you how to do it. So I’ve got my handy dandy castor oil here and I’m trying there you can see it and I’ve got my wool flannel that I’m gonna use as well So basically what you need to do is heat up the castor oil carefully in a little pot on the stove Make it hot – not so hot that you’re gonna burn yourself – but make it hot, and then you saturate this lovely wool flannel in the castor oil then what you do is you want to find a spot to lie down It can be in bed, it can be on the recliner chair, It could be on the floor, but you do need to know that castor oil stains I learned this the hard way and ruined a good pair of silk sheets and pajamas So I have a little castor oil kit which is an old sheet and old ratty pajamas and when I’m gonna use my castor oil pack that’s what I use So lay out a towel lay out a sheet, but don’t stain anything or ruin your couch or so forth So you’re gonna lie down and you’re going to take the saturated wool flannel and you’re going to put it I’m gonna stand up here, but you’re gonna put it on your right side below your rib cage, and this is large So, I mean it’ll cover a big part of the area It’ll cover your liver and it’ll get some of your abdomen as well so you’re gonna put that on you and then you’re gonna take a plastic bag and you’re going to Rip it open and you want to use the same one over and over Because we want to protect the environment and not use too much plastic so you’re going to just put that bag over It’s going to pop and then on top of that you’re gonna put a dry heating pad So if that’s castor oil pack over your liver, that’s saturated you’ve got plastic bag over that and then a dry heating pad and basically, what you’re going to do then is just lie there for 45 minutes – how lovely and wonderful is that? You can read, you can meditate, you can pray, You can listen to music, you can watch TV, but make this a down time. Then when you’re done, you’re going to carefully store the pack. You can store it in a glass mason jar and you’re gonna just fold everything up and keep it together so it’s ready to be used next time. You don’t wash the castor oil pack about every 30 days I just recommend purchasing a new one You could just wring it out in between but basically you’re just going to keep it As far as cleaning the castor oil off yourself, you can um, you know, go to bed with the castor oil on you It’ll soak in and it’s good for your skin. The castor oil pack is going to help detoxify your liver It’s going to get lymphatic system moving. It’s going to decrease inflammation You’re gonna start sleeping through the night. So let me know how it goes, and I’ll see you all soon. Bye bye!
