[ Zits Lady ] I like it when I squeeze my zit and it pops I like that sebums pop out and the acne goes away. But I always get red acne marks on my face. [Inflammatory Acne Girl] Eh? I squeezed my red acne but nothing came out from the pimple… So I squeezed it harder, then it was painful and made the pimple even bigger T^T and I got this caved ACNE SCAR here T^T Why? Dermatologist Unni ~ Tell us what to do ! Hi there ! Changing the misunderstanding about skin care to understanding, I’m the Dermatologist Unni, Doctor Joo! Why should we never squeeze
zits of acnes with our hands? What do older people say when baby suck on their finger? They scold them saying, “Bad ! Don’t suck on your finger! ” This is because there are numerous amounts of bacteria on your hand that cannot be seen with your eyes. This is a picture is a photograph of germs cultured from palms of an 8 year-old child’s unwashed hands, when his son didn’t wash his hand after playing outside. As this, there are a lot of bacteria on your hand. Why do you guys picking at your skin and popping your pimples with hands that are so dirty ? I will show you why you should NEVER pop your pimples with your hands through this video. [Dr. Joo ] Trying to save some electrical fee, I turned the AC off. ( Actually I filmed this video during hot summer… lol ) Then it got pretty hot so I took the white coat off. You are currently looking at my greasy face with
sebum and sweaty dead skin cells. zits or a week old red acne, you know that situation where you get nothing out when squeezed by hand? I will explain the reason by showing this picture. This is the badly drawn skin pores in the normal state, drawn by myself “Skin Pores” mean tiny holes that hairs grow from and sebum move out of. Small pits on the skin is called skin pores. Normal skin pores look like this. Deep inside your skin,
at the end of your hair, these sebum pockets (sebaceous glands) dangle.
people call it zits (comedones or white heads). So, when you squeeze these comedones with your hands like this, they don’t come out so easily because the skin pores are so narrow. If you squeeze lightly those zits, nothing comes out from them. If you squeeze lightly and nothing comes out, you could squeeze harder to get the sebum out. Squeezing it harder, because light squeeze did not work well, can make the sebum and dead skin to pop out. This can leave you satisfied, but this habit can make a small pimple to be a bigger one. Then what should we do with these dome looking pimples or acnes that pus doesn’t come out after popping a pimple? In right timing! Promptly! You should visit your local dermatology clinic. [ Zits Lady ] Do I have to visit the hospital? It’s JUST ACNE. T^T You guys visit hospital when you get sick, right? Acne means that your skin is sick. This is an important skin disease. The most reason patients in their 10s, 20s, and 30s visited the hospital during my dermatology residency training days were “ACNES” (one of most most common “SKIN DISEASE”). If acnes are not treated in “PROPER TIMING” and if acne prolongs for extended period, it can leave “ACNE SCARS” that are difficult to turn back. [Zits lady] But sometimes they just go away even if I didn’t visit the dermatology clinic. [Dermatology Unni ] You’re right. Pimples or acne can go away in time, even if you don’t come to the dermatology clinic… But it is highly possible that RED and BROWN MARKS and ACNE SCARS could be worse. Even if you do come to dermatology clinic, if you come too late, the infection would already be far processed,
and acne will leave scars T^T In summary, “Skin Pore”, the pathway for sebum to exit is very narrow, but the chunk of dead skin cells and sebum deep inside are very big. So when you pop a pimple at first, they don’t come out so easily. If you STRONGLY pick pimples at home or pop acnes with a comedone extractor, the pus could be deeper into skin, and the outer, protective layer of the skin can be broken, spreading the infection and making the acne bigger. As this, zits or acne should NOT be popped by hands at home and acne should be treated properly in dermatology clinics. How was the video? Thank you for watching my bad drawing.
